What is a Negotiating Coach?
People often ask me, "What is a
negotiating coach?" Coaching services are a new kind of legal service that
enables you to keep control over your divorce. Rather than represent you in
court, we help you represent yourself in your negotiations with your spouse. We
also answer your legal questions and provide legal analysis of your situation
with recommendations for how to reach a fair settlement agreement with your
spouse. The fee for this service is $119.95. This fee includes unlimited
telephone calls related to your particular matter.

Most people would like to have a fair settlement
of the end of their marriage and stay out of court and not have the court
decide their future relationship. Up to now there have been few resources to
help them. Mediation is an alternative, but both spouses have to participate.
Typically, one spouse wants out of the marriage and is more willing to negotiate.
If the other spouse doesn't want to negotiate, the couple will often end up
being represented by counsel and the dispute will end up in court even though
the parties don't really want to litigate. Once one of the parties retains
counsel, both parties lose control of the dispute.
We believe that our "legal advice and
coaching service" can help you move the entire settlement process quickly
and with less acrimony and conflict that if you were represented by an attorney.
We listen to your side of the story, provide an objective view of what each
parties rights and obligations are, and suggest some possible options and
alternatives and help you decide which is best for you. If you have reached an
"impasse" in your negotiations with your spouse, we can suggest some
approaches to resolve it.
We can help you evaluate offers and proposals
from the other side, warn you have potential problems, and help you avoid them.
We can recommend a mediator if the situation requires one. If we haven't entered
into a coaching agreement to provide services to you as a client, we can
function as a mediator where we meet with both spouses, either in person, on the
telephone, or on-line, and help you work out a settlement together.
How much does it cost for this coaching service?
Much less than you might think. Because we provide a telephone service, you can
get as much or as little help as you need. Many times a problem can be solved in
a half hour or 45 minutes on the telephone, saving thousands of dollars. Other
times, someone needs to "check in" periodically to keep on track. We may have many 15-minute consultations with someone over a period of months as
they negotiate a complex case. The fee for this service is $119.95. This fee
includes unlimited telephone calls related to your particular matter.
Why use a coach instead of having someone
"do it for you?" Because no one can make better decisions about your
life and your children than you can. The most experienced lawyers or judges
only see you for a short time, out of your usual element, when you are likely to
be nervous and upset. No matter how hard they try, they can never have as
complete a picture of your life, your relationships, your abilities and
aspirations as you.
Studies show that the more a person participates
in his or her own divorce settlement, for example, the more satisfied he or she is with the
outcome. Until now, it has been hard to get the information and benefit of
someone else's experience without turning over a substantial amount of power and
control over you life, just when you are likely to feel a little out of control
already.
A coach keeps you in control.
